Wow, what a first weekend in the Radical. We headed into the 2nd round of the Blue Marble Radical Cup at Barber Motorsports Park with 2 days of experience in the car. The test day gave us a session in the wet and the dry. We ended up qualifying in P2, just 0.03 seconds off P1 the following day.
The Radical Cup North America races are 40 minutes compared to the 22 minute races I'm used to. It was a challenge to stay focused for 40 minutes straight, but I was able to pull off my first win of 2023! Unfortunately we made a fuel calculation error and came in 8lbs under the weight limit. We were disappointed with our mistake, but determined to prove the win didn’t come from a small weight advantage.
I had to start at the back of the field for race 2. I had an incredible start, and passed 12 cars before the 5th corner, putting me in the lead of the Pro 1340 class. After a brief battle for the lead, I held P1 all the way to the checkered flag, taking my first official win in a Radical! Coming from 26th to 12th overall also earned me the Sunoco Hard Charger Award!
The series throws a cool twist into the 3rd race of every weekend in the form of a mandatory timed pit stop. Over the course of 40 minutes and a pit stop I went on to take another win!
The weekend was a huge confidence booster going into the FEL Emzone RCC championship, and I can't wait for our first race weekend on May 19/20/21 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario!
